Fall Fashion Report

With cold weather season upon us it’s my favourite time to update my wardrobe.  Fall and winter give us so many options to layer not only pieces of clothing, but colours and textures.  Incorporating just a few fun trends can spruce up and revitalize any closet.  This doesn’t just apply to the world of fashion, but with our home decor too.  I love being inspired by the runway and finding interesting ways to translate that to the home as well.  I chose 3 of my favourite trends from Fall/Winter 2013 and how they could be transformed to update any space.

Fur

Fur made an impact all over the runway.  Designers didn’t shy away from making a statement.  Not only did we see bold coats, but fun accessories and unexpected colours.  Less can be more with this trend.  Adding just a touch of fur to a room can warm it up and add amazing texture.  From a cozy throw on your bed to a single pillow on your sofa, this is an easy trend to work in with your existing decor, especially in a neutral colour.  You can also find some interesting and bold pieces, like sheepskin seats, or fur rugs to take it up a notch.

Menswear Inspired Fabrics

Plaid, tweed and houndstooth are perfect for the fall and winter months.  They are great fabrics to bundle up in, and they add warmth aesthetically as well.  Rich textures and mixing patterns can look fresh and modern, even with the classic nature of these fabrics.

Janelle02Sofas and chairs look chic in tweed, and can be modernized with pops of colour.  Another easy way to work a pattern into your space is through bedding.  Plaids and prints can work amazingly well together and mixing and matching adds interest to a room.  An easy way for a fall update!

Emerald Green

It’s the hot colour from Spring/Summer that is sticking around for the next few months. This rich jewel tone can add a great pop of colour, or be a bold dramatic theme throughout your space.   Janelle04

Painting one statement wall in this colour would be a showstopper.  It works really well with other jewel tones, making a space feel luxurious.  If you only want a dash of this bold shade pair it with a neutral- like bright  pillows on your sofa, or even as a bathmat. Using plants and greenery is another simple and effective way of trying out this trend!

Great article Janelle. I have definitely noticed a lot of fur here in Toronto! In fact was one of the first things I’ve noticed when I got here!
