Remembering Susan Hargraves

< inspo home

We have lost a very important member of our design community. Sadly, I received news last week that my friend & colleague, Susan Hargraves (Rooms that Work), has passed away. It seems unimaginable, as she was so full of life.

I met Susan when we first hosted Kimberley Seldon in 2007 at Flüff ’s original warehouse. I knew immediately that we would be friends. What a dynamic, intelligent and talented woman.  Although she lived on the island (and I on the mainland) we managed to squeeze in a lunch here and a coffee there. Rick and I had pleasure of visiting her & Jim in their wonderful home outside of Nanaimo. Of course, it was executed to perfection blending style & functionality.

I don’t need to extol her talents as a designer. Anyone who knew her, you already know that she was brilliant at her trade. I was always excited to see what stylish outfit she was wearing, what funky glasses she had, and, of course, the haircut. But the thing that most impressed me was her kind-heartedness that extended to anyone and everyone in her life. She was an enormous support for new designers and entrepreneurs.  But her love and heart shone the brightest with her family.  I can only imagine the loss that they are feeling.

Susan has left a beautiful permanent mark on all of us. I was blessed to know her. Rest in peace, Susan.
