Portland City Guide

< inspo home

Last weekend I packed up my ’89 pick-up truck and drove down to Portland – my favourite city! Not only did I indulge in my favourite pastime (eating my body weight in pizza and doughnuts – this place is gluten-free, vegan mecca), but I got to visit some of my most favored shops.

Obviously, first stop was cake from Petunia’s. This bakery opened my eyes to a new level of gluten-free, vegan possibilities. I honestly think I cried the first time I ate it. It’s hard to believe the creations they can come up with. This time my top picks were the pumpkin pie and eggnog cheesecake (need I say more?)

Around the corner is a boutique I hold dear to my heart – Mojave! The owner Chelsea and I have chatted for great lengths of time and it’s so nice to see her friendly face when in Portland. She has completely changed around the layout of the store and has added homewares to her already spot-on collection of pieces.

Mojave 1Cute ceramics are all over the store! The plant hangers were the most affordable I have found on the market.

We were wandering through the Pearl District en route to the Multnomah Whiskey Library  and stumbled upon a new store we’d never seen, MadeHere PDX. I’m a sucker for local-made pieces and Portland is the epicenter of creative masterminds. This store was stocked with hundreds of pieces created by local “Portlanders” that were innovative, delicious, cozy and anything but home-crafted looking. I was able to connect with a designer who was working at the shop. Stephen works on the team at Revolution Design House. This collective of designers believe that “form and function should never be mutually exclusive”. Something I can agree with whole-heartedly.  My favourite piece they had at MadeHere PDX was this modular seating arrangement. The pop of teal is totally unexpected and unlike anything else on the market.

These are just a few reasons why Portland is an amazing city. The food is delicious, the coffee is strong and flavorful, the kombucha is two dollars cheaper, the people are friendly and happy, and the local artists are sought after more than established chains. If you haven’t been to PDX before, I highly recommend it! Below is a downloadable listing I made of shops, restaurants and sites around the city to see. Print out a copy and take it with you!
