Rick and I had the fabulous experience of being part of the tour of renovated Vancouver Specials. The Vancouver Heritage Foundation organized the tour.  These “plain-Jane” 2500 sq. ft houses, that are everywhere in Vancouver, were incredible examples of what can be done with “space”.  Each one had a very different interpretation of a very similar floor plan.  I must say the basic footprint really lends itself to a contemporary design.  It was great to see how each owner personalized the space.

From an environmental perspective, it has been calculated that it takes about 65 years for an energy efficient new building to save the amount of energy lost in demolishing an existing building.
