Patti bought some benches over the weekend, and being the creative folks we are, we decided to re-upholster them. Our amazing Warehouse Warrior, Shane, did some neat handy work on the set of benches, and this was his process:
- Create a template cover and fit over bench
- Re-adjust pattern as needed
- Fit over bench and cut notches to make room for screws
- Pull fabric over tightly; staple down
Have you re-upholstered anything in the last little while? Or have you gotten someone else to do it? Leave us your comments below!
Hey, great stuff! I’ve been wanting to try projects like that but seem to have too many other things on my plate (sigh).
Hi Ellie,
Juggling so many things is definitely a challenge. Maybe the next time you’ve got a spare moment you can pick up a creative DIY project!
It’s amazing what new fabric can do to furniture. A while back I bought 4 Marcel Breuer’s 1928 cantilevered Cesca chairs from craigslist that had the original caned seats covered with old upholstery fabric. I went to ikea and bought cheap black and white printed fabric and the chairs were completely transformed! My friends think I am so crafty when all I did was strip the old fabric staple the new one over the seats. You can see before and after here

Very cool! Really love the black & white “after” version
