Starting with a blank canvas consisting of white walls is ideal for most designers, but not always the case. This particular property boasted a large master bedroom with floor to ceiling metallic, hummingbird wallpaper complete with hints of blues, greens and pinks throughout. At the request of the realtor we were on a mission to “make it disappear”.

We immediately took advantage of the soft earth tones in the wallpaper and used that as our starting point, which helped to neutralize the space. We then added layers of texture and subtle patterns in the same earthy tones to create a serene and luxurious atmosphere. The warm tones and textures also helped to soften the metallic sheen of the silver hummingbirds.

For a little pop of colour we played on the hints of blue in the wallpaper which also allowed us to embrace the turquoise bathroom fixtures across the hall. From there we continued using hints of blue throughout the home which complimented the property’s beautiful ocean view. Both the realtor and homeowner were pleasantly surprised at the reveal and the property sold in 3 weeks!
