Rick and I were on a little vacation in southern California a couple of weeks ago. We were exploring different neighbourhoods in San Diego before heading to the airport and came across “Little Italy” – a very interesting and eclectic “hood”. I will definitely spend a little more time there next time we are in SD. I had just said to Rick that we hadn’t seen many furniture or design stores when we came upon mixture – more of a large lifestyle store rather than just furniture. Firstly the size is incredibly impressive – A mere 8500 square feet. It is a multi-level store and although in my opinion they don’t ever really work but this one did. The difference was the store gradually declined as you proceeded through (instead of having to climb up to a second level) and was open to the sunny outdoors. It was incredibly inviting.
Secondly was their impressive product mix. There were linear yet comfortable upholstered pieces, interesting and unique tables/case goods and a variety of accessories including books, candle etc. As we moved through to the back of the store an entire outdoor area featuring a very nice collection everything you would need to create a gorgeous garden or patio space.
But most impressive was the representation of local artists through the entire space. The one that caught my eye was a glass sculptor name Hugo Heredia Barrera. Oh my …. There is a piece from the collection that I am still thinking about. (You can see it here.) Not only was the piece gorgeous but presented in this unique and wonderful store made it even more special.
If you get a chance and are in San Diego you must visit Mixture. Mixture Modern Furniture and Home Accessories is located at 2210 Kettner Boulevard, San Diego.
