On the Fence?

< blog home

Most people feel that garden fences are uninteresting but I think that a fence can make your property stand out.  Developers and home builders are paying a lot more attention to exteriors in order to attract buyers and are coming up with new unique, sleek designs.

Here is an older design that can be purchased at most major hardware stores:

If you are willing to customize your fence there are many different styles available that are worth the extra money. Top grade cedar or clear cedar are a good material of choice since they resist well in wet conditions and will last for years.  Be aware when asking for a quote to clarify exactly the grade of cedar because some contractors will often build with lower grade materials if not specified on the estimate. Here are some new designs that caught my eye:

Light and airy but still provides privacy:

Complete privacy with lighting for dramatic effect:

Alternating the size of the boards can create visual interest. The spacing between them  allows more light to filter through for smaller spaces:

Rock wall with mesh wiring (expensive but unique and appealing):

The impact of a well design fence is well worth the money. Look at this beautiful new laneway home in Vancouver with contrasting materials for posts:

Adding another dimension to the design this fence helps this property stand out:

So don’t overlook the world of fences… Fence appeal is always important and underrated!
