As many of you know we had the pleasure once again of having Kimberley Seldon at the Studio @ Flüff for another great presentation.
I have been privileged to host many of her presentations over the years (10 to be exact) and it never ceases to amaze me the amount of knowledge she is willing and able to share in a limited amount of time.
The topic of this workshop was “Staging to Decorating”. We, along with many of our staging community, enjoy a percentage of our business from the interior design world. One would think that it’s a natural evolution from one to the other – staging to decorating – but it does prove to hold its challenges.
Kimberley so succinctly pointed out many of these challenges, offered creative solutions and many tips and tricks to successfully work with our decorating clients. Much of her wisdom is clearly spelled out in her two value-packed “Business of Design” books. The 15 step process that Kimberley referred to often is a blueprint for running any kind of design business.
One of the best take-aways for me was that negotiating is NOT something that should be
entertained in the design industry. You’re a professional and your rates should reflect that.
We also had time to interview her about how she got involved in the design business & where does she see it going in the near future. Click here to see a clip from our interview.
After her presentation at Flüff, Kimberley was off to prepare for IDS West where she will be doing a presentation “Guaranteed: On Time and On Budget” on Friday, September 26, at 12:30 pm.
