We love bringing elements of design eras into our staging projects. One distinct era we love is Memphis Group style, which is full of graphic ’80’s prints and bright colours. Check out this great design style below:
Memphis Group, oddly enough, wasn’t based in Tennessee, but in Milan! This design group, aptly named after a Bob Dylan song, based it’s architecture and designs from Art Decor and Pop Art influence. They produced furniture, textiles, ceramic and mixed material pieces from 1981 to 1987. The distinct asymmetrical shapes and patterns done in vibrant colours made this collective group stand out. We now see their influence in everything from fashion to store design.
BOLD PRINTS
Black and white stripes are a distinct pattern seen in this design era. Mixed in with bright blues and pinks, these two spaces are perfect examples of Memphis Group style.
VIBRANT COLOURS
As mentioned, the mix of bright colours make this era pop out. Especially following the muted colours of the ’70’s.
DECOR
The stunning ceramics seen in bold prints and colours are a perfect way to bring this style into your home. We love the black vase with white lines!
MODERN USAGE
We’re seeing a HUGE comeback of this style. This time around, we’re seeing pastel colours, and softer shapes. We’ve seen a lot of beautiful ceramics done in the Memphis style lately. We especially like Leah Jackson’s work. See more of her work here.

This style is cheery and fun, some may think it’s even bizarre because of it’s boldness! We think it’s a great era to be influenced by. Bringing in elements that the Memphis Group did will create a fun, yet not overbearing, space.
Happy Decorating!
